Lili Horvat’s eye catching and distinctively long title for her latest film, Preparations to be Together for an Unknown Period of Time, lures us into the rocky romantic conquest led by Natasa Stork in the role of Hungarian neurosurgeon, Vizy Márta. The moody colour palette foreshadows Vizy’s mood to follow as she returns to Hungary in search of a man she barely knows (Viktor Bodó). Vizy drops everything including her career, her friendships and her dignity but one thing she didn’t account for was that he may not recognise her. Natasha Stork’s portrayal of a gloomy Vizy is the entire allure of the film. Her determination and borderline delusion in the soul crushing fantasy, realistically imitates the dangers of falling in love with a stranger but never crosses the line between dramatic reflection of reality and comical parody. In other words - a feast for romantics and realists combined!
